{back to About Paul}
Paul Jeffrey Sharits was survived by myself (Christopher), my wife, two grandsons (now three), and my grandfather, Paul Edward Sharits (who passed away on February 26, 2004).
Paul J. Sharits (PJ) was born in Denver on February 7, 1943. His younger brother, Gregg Leigh Sharits, was born in Denver on April 24, 1945 (the same day as my son Jeffrey). Paul J.'s parents were Paul Edward Sharits and Florence May Romeo Sharits.
PJ's father, (my grandfather) Paul E., was born in Pittsburgh, PA on March 15,1916. He had four sisters, Catherine Sharits, Margaret Sanders, Mary Sanchez, and Veronica Gautreau. Paul E.'s father was Samuel Vernon Sharits of Germantown, Ohio. Sam was born May 10,1885 (the same day as my son Gregory) and he died in1972. I was lucky enough to meet him on several occasions.
Paul E.'s mother (my great grandmother) was Elzira Jane Thompson of Palestine, Texas. She was born on January 21, 1884. She has a very interesting story that has something to do with her indecisive choices about her spirituality and how to express it. As I understand it, she at one time sent my grandfather to live with his grandma because she was going to become a nun. It didn't take and they "released" her from her obligations. I know the name "Sharits" has some Welsh to it, but I haven't followed through on my european genealogy. I will soon.
Florence May Romeo Sharits (my grandmother) was born in Louisville, Colorado on May 15, 1912 (he same day as my mother, Frances). She had 10 siblings. They are
Phillipine Isle Romeo,
Floyd Angelo Romeo,
Franklin Nicholas Romeo,
Nicholas Franklin Romeo,
Christina Ida Romeo Ambuehl,
Charles Grant Romeo,
Ruth Mildred Romeo Zohn,
Virginia Venice Romeo,
Anthony Charles Vincent Romeo, Jr.,
and Gloria Violet Romeo Watkins. Of those, only Tony, Jr. and Gloria are still with us, however, there are still many cousins that I have yet to meet. I thank Paul's cousin, Chandler Romeo, for the information here. Hopefully, we can digitize the family video and put it on this site. It's a GREAT Romeo show.
My great grandparents, were Anthony Charles Vincent Romeo and Mary Vita Crescensa Girardo Romeo. Great Grandpa Anthony was born in Boliano, Italy on September 26, 1877 and died on January 19, 1951. Great Grandma Mary Vita was born near Potenza, Italy on June 17, 1883 and died September 25, 1964, so I didn't meet them.
